The Hoxton, Amsterdam is the Hoxton hotel group’s achingly-hip Netherlands outpost. The property was originally five separate canal houses – one of which was home to the city’s mayor in the 17th-century.

Already a style press favourite – this city-centre beauty opened in 2015 and is all about modish design and impeccable service with a top-notch location on the Herengracht, right in the heart of Amsterdam. This puts you mere minutes from the art galleries, bars, cafés and independent boutiques that give this capital its cool edge.

Signature restaurant Lotti’s is a fashionable dining space with a retractable glass roof for when it’s sunny. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, the Italian-inspired menu features dishes prepared with fresh and locally-sourced ingredients. For breakfast, guests receive a Breakfast Bag outside their room that’s filled with goodies (fresh orange juice, yoghurt granola, banana) from the local neighbourhood deli. There’s also a super-stylish lobby bar for snacks, craft beers, artfully-crafted cocktails, and all-day chilling.

Staying right on the Herengracht, you’ll be within easy walking distance of most of the city’s delights. Besides gazing in wonder at the 200-year-old canals, must-dos include checking out the rose garden at Vondelpark and overdosing on arty masterpieces at Rijksmuseum, Stedelijk and Van Gogh Museum.

Further thrills include hitting the bicycle-filled streets for quirky one-off shops and neighbourhood cafés, stocking up on tulips at the floating Bloemenmarkt flower market. The Hoxton, Amsterdam is a 20-minute walk from Central Station and a 25-minute drive from Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport.
